Your Data

As a business-to-business provider of newsletters, events and reports, Reconnaissance relies on ‘legitimate interests’ as the lawful basis for processing most of the personal data described in this Policy. Broadly, this means we may process your personal data where we have a genuine business reason for doing so, and this is not overridden by your rights and interests. Before relying on this basis, we carefully balance our reasons for processing against any potential impact on you.

Where we ask for your consent instead – for example, for certain marketing emails or non-essential cookies – we rely on that consent, and you may withdraw it at any time.

Information We Collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

• Contact details you give us – name, job title, organisation, email address, postal address, telephone number.
• Account and subscription information – your login email, organisation membership, subscription tier, seat allocation (ie. number of user accounts), and records of active login sessions used to enforce your subscription's seat limit.
• Payment information – where you subscribe or purchase directly through the website, card payments are processed by Stripe (see ‘Payments’ below); we do not receive or store your full card details.
• Usage data – pages viewed, links clicked, and similar technical data collected via cookies (see ‘Cookies’ below).
• Verity AI Search queries – if you use our Verity AI search feature, the text of the questions you ask (see ‘Verity AI Search’ below).

How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

• Provide the services you've asked for – deliver your subscription, newsletters and access to articles, fulfil report and event orders, and manage your account and login sessions.
• Promote our products and services to you. For example, if you visit our website without subscribing, we may email you about doing so; if you subscribe to one of our publications, we may tell you about others in our portfolio that could be of interest. You can opt out of promotional emails at any time using the unsubscribe link included in every email we send.
• Improve our websites and services – understanding how our sites are used helps us fix problems and develop better content and features.
• Comply with our legal and contractual obligations, including responding to legal process and enforcing our Terms and Conditions.

Payments

Where you pay for a subscription, report or event directly through our website, your card payment is processed by Stripe, our payment processor. Stripe collects and processes your payment card details directly – Reconnaissance does not see or store your full card number. Stripe's use of your data is governed by Stripe's own privacy policy.

Verity AI Search

Verity is an AI-powered search feature available to eligible subscribers. When you submit a question to Verity:

• The text of your question is sent to OpenAI to generate a search match, and to Anthropic (the maker of Claude) to generate the written answer. Only the question text and the article content needed to answer it are sent – not your name, email address or subscription details.
• OpenAI and Anthropic process this text under their own respective data processing terms; Reconnaissance does not control how long they retain it beyond what's needed to service the request.
• A record of your question and the answer given may be stored against your account so that you can see your own search history.

Cookies

Our websites use cookies – small files stored by your browser – to support core site functionality, such as keeping you logged in and remembering your session, and to help us understand how our sites are used so we can improve them. We may also use cookies to support marketing activity in future; if and when we do, this Policy will be updated accordingly.

You can control or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect some site functionality, such as staying logged in. For general guidance on managing cookies, see www.aboutcookies.org.

Disclosing Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share personal data only with trusted third-party service providers who process it on our behalf and under contract, to help us run our services – for example, Stripe (payments), Amazon Web Services (email delivery and file storage), Workbooks (our CRM), and OpenAI and Anthropic (Verity AI search, as described above). We may also disclose information where required by law, to comply with legal process, or to enforce our Terms and Conditions.

If we intend to disclose your personal data to any other third party for a purpose not described in this Policy, we will only do so with your knowledge and consent.

Your Rights

Subject to applicable data protection law (including UK GDPR), you have the right to:

• Ask us what personal data we hold about you, and request a copy of it;
• Ask us to correct inaccurate data;
• Ask us to delete your data, or restrict how we use it, in certain circumstances;
• Object to processing based on legitimate interests; and
• Ask for your data to be provided to you, or transferred to another provider, in a portable format.
